ATEX / IECEx Marking Decoder
Read a supported marking one segment at a time. Unknown or conflicting segments trigger review rather than an assumed meaning or product approval.
Screening only. This tool does not classify hazardous areas or approve a product, installation or safety system. Use the applicable project requirements, manufacturer data and exact certificate conditions.
Method & limits
The dictionary separates ATEX Group II categories, Ex protection techniques, gas or dust groups, temperature and EPL. A zone summary is only a conventional EPL/category correspondence. It does not prove certificate validity, installation suitability or the compatibility of combined protection techniques. Certificate numbers, special conditions, associated apparatus, mining categories and unfamiliar tokens are not inferred.
Frequently asked questions
Does Ex mean the certificate is valid?
No. The prefix is decoded as text. Check the issuing certificate, model scope, schedule and any X or U conditions separately.
What happens to an unknown segment?
It is labeled Unrecognized. The tool withholds an overall zone conclusion until the complete marking is reviewed.
Are db and Db the same?
No. Lowercase db is flameproof protection; Db is a dust equipment protection level. Input is case-sensitive.
Can a decoded EPL classify my site?
No. EPL-to-zone correspondence does not determine the site zone. The project hazardous-area assessment is independent.
Can I paste a complete nameplate?
Paste one Ex marking line, not an entire label. Unsupported certificate identifiers, electrical ratings or extra tokens are flagged for review.
